LICENSING QUESTION.

PROPOSAL IN NEW SOUTH WALES. By Telegraph—Press Association—Copyright Australian and N.Z. Cable Association (Received December 6, 11-35 a.m.) SYDNEY, December 6. A proposal has been made by a prohibition propagandist that two Licenses Reduction Boards should be ap-. pointed with the object of reducing the period when a referendum may be taken. Another cleavage is reported in thfe prohibition camp over the date of the referendum, stated a Sydney message of yesterday’s date. The Rev R. B. S. Hammond contends that the recent agreement was reached on the basis of a the end of 1925. The Alliance refuses to agree to a later date, and if unable to get that date, it will insist on an immediate referendum in accordance with pre-election promises. The Hon.T. J. Ley, Minister of Justice, explains that it was not stipulated in the recent agreement that the referendum should be taken in 1925, but when the work of the Reductions Board had been completed, which might be in five years. If that period could be reduced the referendum would be taken earlier.
