BRITAIN’S TARIFF WALL.
A FRENCH CRITIC. By Telegraph—Press Association—Copyright Australian and N.Z. Cable Association. (Received* December 6, 10.30 a.m.) PARIS, December 5. “ Le Temps” says: “If Air Baldwin is successful in having a tariff wall erected against the importation of manufactured goods other industrial countries, menaced by the loss of the English market, will h-3 subjected to more troublesome competition from British lnanufacturei s. Such a prospect would not be alarming during prosperous times, but at present other nations may be compelled to look for opportunities elsewhere equal to those of which they may be deprived in the English market. Some may find it necessary to enter into agreements to avoid competition with each other in certain markets. Mr Baldwin’s protectionist policy may therefore recoil on England before it- has time to reap the fruits of the protective tariff.”
