WORK OF CONFERENCE.

% LONDON. October 27. It is authoritatively stated that the members of the Imperial Conference are endeavouring to conclude the sittings by tho middle of November at the latest, and possibly earlier. The only important subjects awaiting the Conference, apart from defence, are the status of Indians within the Empire aryl the treaty-making powers of the dominions. Tho former probably will be concluded next week, and the latter already has been remitted to a- special committee, which is now in consultation with the Foreign Office. The delegates attach considerable portance to the committee’s repdrfc, which, if adopted by the conference, will determine the treaty-making status of the dominions for the first time in the Empire’s history. There are also several ‘committees investigating various eubjects, including migration, group settlement, financial co-operation between Britain and the dominions with reference to development enterprises and defence contributions by the dominions, all of which must be submitted to .the Imperial Conference, and will probably occupy the last fortnight.
