START OF COMPETITIONS. i Bowlers were favoured with ideal conditions this afternoon. when a start was I made with the Christchurch Centre’s four- } rink championship and pennant conxpetiI tions. Tbe greens were in splendid order | and the standard of play generally was | high or the commencement of the season. SECTION I).
LYTTELTON CLUB. The 3 923-24 season of tho Lyttelton Bowling Club was opened this afternoon. Tho green was in splendid order and there was a la,rgo attendance of members and their friends. In declaring the eeason open, the president, Mr H. H. Barnard, said that the opening had to ho postponed from last week as tlio opening of the tennis competitions in Christchurch would have, pre vented many of the club's niemern from attending the opening: AlthC-uyh the club had not entered for the pennant competitions this year, he had no doubt that the match committee would be able to arrange friendly roatchem with other olubs in order to give members an opportunity of playing on other greens. Mrs Jacobsen rolled the first, bowl, after which friendly games between members , were played. The ladies provided afternoon. tea a.r.d tbe Lyttelton Marine Band played several selections, i Mr Barnard presented prizes won on the j indoor greeri.
