SENIOR COMPETITION. The concluding ronnd of the Canterbury Lawn Tennis Association's Men's Senior inter-club competition was played to-day, { and resulted in a win for the Canterbury College team, which went, through the competition without a defeat, Opawa., who. ! were beaten by one game in their match } with Canterbury College, were, runners- • up. The following are to-day’s results:AVONSTDE v. OPAWA. Opawa beat Avonside at Opawa by 21 games. The following are the scores (Opawa names first): — Singles. Ollivier 9, Glanville 2. Clark 9, Warsaw 7Patterson 9, Berry 1. Harman 6, Dobie 9. Doubles. Ollivier and Patterson 9. Gianrille and Berry J. Harman and Clark 8, Dobie and Warsaw Totals—Opawa 50; Avonside 29. There was great battling in the singles between Warsaw and Clark. Practically every game played went up to deuce, and from there the advantage went from one player to the other. Warsaw, who was playng steadily and solidly, took the first, three games. Clark did not seem to be striking his usual form, but after getting the fourth game he played well. Tho score came to 4-3 in Warsaw's favour, and finally the score went to 7 all. After hard fighting Clark took the next two games and the set. There was a. good display of tennis in the match between Dobie and Harman. Dobie was very steady, and remained cool even when hard pressed, and it was tills that got hm the set. Harman was not quite as accurate as usual, and he drove some good shots over the base line. Dobio had a comfortable lead right through and w«pnt out, at- 9-6. It was speed that beat Berry in his match with Patterson. The Opawa man • made the pace hard from the start, a.ml in a very short time Berry had very little left in him. He played a plucky game | and struggled as hard as he could, hut j he was -quite unable to make any mark j on hia opponent, who took the set at 9-1. ; Ollivier was in great- form to-day. and ho evidently taking no mcro risks with his singles matches. His shots were fast and..accurate, and Glanville seemed to counter for his corner and angle shots. Glanville, who hae not. been on the courts for a little time owing to illness, played a good, plucky game, hut he was not in form and took only two games out of the set. Ollivief and Patterson were a good deal to fast for Glanville and Berry in the doubles. Both the Opawa men were in great form, whereas Glanville was not. and the pace was too hot for Berry. The set went to Opawa easily at 9-1. There was a good struggle in the doubles between Clark and Harman and Warsaw and Dobie. started off with a slight advantage and took the first two games, but Avonside soon evened up and play became very keen. The score went up to G all. and Avonside won the thirteenth game, but lost the fourteenth. The next game was a hard one, hut after deuce was cabled Opawa got the acjyntage and tho game. The next two game 3 went to - Avonside who took the set 9-8. CANTERBURY COLLEGE v. SUMNER, Canterbury College beat Sumner at Canterbury College by 18 games. The following are the results: — B. B. lough nan 9, Rowe 4. Seay 9, Barlow 7. Robinson 9. Do Passe 4. •A. B. Loughnan 9, Willii-me 6. Seay and B. B. Loughnan 9, Rowe and Barlow 8. Robinson and A. B. Loughnan 9, De Passe and Williams 6. Totals—Canterbury College 54, Sumner 36. ; Taking the play all through Canterbury College proved to be the superior team. Their quickness and alertness gained for them the majority of their points. Tho Sumner- men showed brilliant turns of play at times, but whenever they began to show too much promise the College men tightened their game up. LINWOOD v. ADDINGTON. Linwood beat Addington at Linwood by 35 games. Tbe following are the scores (Linwood names first) : Singles. Goss 9. Matthewson 3. Borrows 9. Hamilton 4. Field 9, Wise 2. Wood 9, Cooper 4, Doubles.
