STOCK PRICES.

SUMMARY OF YESTERDAY’S SALE. Beef and mutton both showed an improvement in price at tho metropolitan weekly market at Addington yesterday--1 here were nine races of fat sheep forward compared with seven and a half the previous week. The sale opened with prices about on a par with late rates, but the demand soon improved and continued to improve. The result was that towards the close of the sale values were from Is to Is Gd a head in advance of opening rates. Prices a lb were:—Best wether mutton 83d to Bsd, secondary 7sd to Bd, best ewe 7sd to Bid, secondary to 7sd. Though the top price for woolly wethers was 57s for a small pen sold on behalf of a client the best line was from Mr L. Ruddock (Southbridge), 54 realising from 50s 9d to 55s 9d. Top shorn wether price, 44s 9d. was secured bv the Richmond Hill Estate for twenty and twenty-one woolly ewes from Mr A P. Smith (Cust) made 50s 4d. Store sheep met with a brighter sale than last week though prices showed no great improvement. However, vendors were prepared to accept the lower values with tho result- that the whole offering was cleared at auction—a marked contrast t-o the previous two sales at which about two-thirds of the entry was passed. Spring lambs realised satisfactory values. However, on account of a considerably larger entry, lamb prices were not so high as a week The yarding of beef comprised 36C head, compared with 4-30 last week. The demand was good throughout and price? advanced by about 20s a head on late rates- Prices a 1001 b were :—Best beef to 47s Gd. prime 44s to 465, medium 40s to 435, light 36s to 39s and rough down to 2os. All classes of store cattle showing any condition at all were in demand, but low conditioned sorts proved slow of sale. Generally speaking, the quality of the dairy cattle offered was indifferent and the market was irregular. There was a large yarding of vealers, consisting mostly of small calves. The bulk of the runners were of indifferent quality but quite a number of smaller calves in good condition were offered and these sold firmly at late rates. Both porker? and bnconers met with a good demand and there was an excellent sale of store pig?. FAT SILEEP. Extra, prime wethers. 51s to -545. -a few special to 57e. Prime wethers, 46s 6d to 50e.
