PAROCHIALISM.
BY SINBAD. Local feeling is a tiling, in the view of O. T. J., that all poets ought to sing, and all writers praise to-day; “To parochialism cling!” is the word that he would say. Federation of mankind may be very nice and fine, hut ’tis but a vision blind—to be bluffed we should decline, for we’re certain soon to find that it is a hopeless line. Rather, O. I’. ,1. declares, we our native town should praise; better far than Buenos Aires, prettier than Sydney’s bays, is our city, and who dares a discordant voice to raise? Some may talk of ’Frisco’s shore, or exalt the Great White Way ; others speak of Singapore, others rave about Bombay : we their babblings will ignore —Christchurch is the place, we say. Melbourne’s beauties charm a few for a brief and passing hour; Paris boasts a noble view from tbe lofty Eiffel Tower ; but their people never knew Christchurch city’s mystic power. Auckland dwellers long and loud of their village make a fuss: but for all the northern crowd Christchurch does not give Christchurch is the burg for us 1
