BODY IN RIVER.
DEATH OF ELDERLY MAN. The body of an elderly man named Thomas Hickey was recovered from the Avon River at New Brighton this morning. A man going to work at 6.45 reported to Constable Hislop that he had seen the body floating up the river with the incoming tide, at a spot near the Bower Hotel. It was subsequently identified by the constable as that of Hickey, who arrived in New Brighton a fortnight ago from'Wellington. He is believed to be about, sixty-five years of age. and he had stated that he was waterside worker. Papers found on the body showed that he was a member of the Wellington Working Men’s Club. Hickey was seen in New Brighton about 9.39 last night by Constable Hialop. An inquest, will beld to-morrow.
