SERIES OF COMPETITIONS. PROSE, POETRY AND PICTURES. A scries of competitions has been wranged for this year’s Christmas number of the “Star.'* The competition* wjll cater for the story writer, th* poet (senior and junior), and the photographic artist. The subjects of the competitions and the prizes offered are as follows : 1. ORIGINAL STORY, not to exceed 2COO words. First prize £5 ss, second prize £3 3s. 2. ORIGINAL POEM. subject “ A Canterbury Summer.” First prize £3. second prize £2. 3. CHILDREN S POEM, any subject. open to children under 14. First prize £l Is. second prize 15s. 4. PHOTOGRAPHIC STUDIES relating to Canterbury. Subjects maybe chosen from the seaside (yachting, boating or bathing), the Avon, the Port Hills, the farming districts or the mountains. The prints must be suitable for reproduction and not les* than postcard size. Prizes £2 10s, £2. £1 10s. £l. Others accepted for reproduction 7s 6d each. i 5. BEAUTY COMPETITION. Original Photographic Portrait Study of Pretty Canterburv or Westland Girl. Must be posed and printed by amateurs. The name and address of the subject of the portrait study must be given. Prizes £3 3s each to winning photographer and lady. £2 2s each to second photographer and lady, and £1 Is each to third photographer and lady. ■ r The awards in all competitions will /be made by the Editor of the ‘‘ Star ” f whose decision will be final.

Entries will be received up to November 20. Each entry should be accompanied by a stamped and addressed envelope, for return if not accepted.
