Mr Bruce (Commonwealth Prim© Minister) has been sworn in as a Privy Councillor, according to a Ixmdon cable During the last month or so some of the churches in and around the city have been subjected to visits from some nocturnal prowler or prowlers, whose chief object of attention is the collection box. It was reported yesterday that St Mary’s Church. Addington, bad been visited, where the thief thought there would he a fruitful harvest, as there, had been special services held in the church on Sunday last, the collection being between £B4 and £BO. Luckily this had been removed before the thief arrived, so that his energy and cunning were wasted on an enterprise which proved barren. It is thought that the thief entered the church some time on Sunday night. The collection boxes had been overturned and the vestry searched. As the door was not locked*, it was not hard for the thief to gain an entrance. The police stated last evening that they had not been notified of this particular attempt, but during the past three, or four weeks Knox Church and another church in Papanui had been entered, though in each case there was nothing in the way of cash on the premises, and nothing else had been taken.
