In all my twenty-five years’ experience 1 have never seen such a hurricane. There was only one man in charge, and that was God.—Skipper Al’Carthy (after a terrible voyage). A successful and enjoyable dance was held by the ladies of Broomfield on Friday night. Great credit is due to the committee, consisting of Alesdames Croft. Cook and Al’Farlane and Aliss Elderton as secretary, for the way they had arranged everything. The school was prettily decorated with pink and heliotrope streamers, with tho same coloured drapings round the walls with bunches of wattle at intervals Great amusement was caused by the “ excuse j-j-jg -• j waltz and the chain valtz. while the “lucky spot” waltz was won by Mrs C. Smith and Air J. Smith. Dur ing an interval Aliss Corrie gave recitations. Mr Prebbie. on behalf of the gentlemen, thanked the ladies for the enjoyable evening that they had pro vided. Music for the dancing was supplied ’oy M r Ted Smith and Air and Mrs Bangs ter, of Balcairn. Amongst those present were : —Alesdames C. Croft. 0. Smith, Sangster.
