*. - WINTER WEATHER IN EARNEST. , The special forecast of the southerly storm with rain, j>ublished in yesterday’s ” Star,” was amply confirmed before noon to-day. when a boisterous sou'-wester, with its usual concomitants, came up over Christchurch. Tho weather, in other respects, in . tho forenoon was characterised by bleakness and sunlessness, but the sun ■* camo out brightly about 2 p.m. At 4 a.m. the minimum temperature registered on the grass at the Observatory was 20. G degrees. Mr Clements sent a telegraphic ines- ! sage to Air S. J. Collett, Government : tourist agent in Christchurch, in ths morning, that his cars from Hokitika were prevented ’by ico and snow hi Arthur’s Puss from going further than c Otira.
