CLEARING THE PASS.
MAKING A TRACK FOR CARS. Advice was received this afternoon from the County Clerk at Springfield by Mr Climie to the effect that lie expects to effect temporary repairs to the traffic bridge over the Kowai in time for traffic in about two days. Meanwhile it _js possible for road traffic, by taking a roundabout route to overcome the difficulty of the Kowai crossing. The most urgent work co be attended to in order for cars to make through connection is the clearing of snow on the top of Porter’s Pass. A team of horses went up there to-day by arrangement with .\lr Clements for the purpose of endeavouring to pull a car through, as it was thought that if one car were pulled through it would make a track for others. “ If 1 get werk that successful coratention to arrange, if possible, for the postal authorities to send their mails bv that route,” said Mr Climie, “1111 less, of course, it is discovered in the meantime that the railways are in a position to take them. In other words I will get the male away by the first transport offering.”
