SWIMMING.

MEETING OF CANTERBURY CENTRE. A meeting of the Canterbury Centre of the New Zealand Amateur Swimming Association was held last evening, Mr ii. a. Williams presiding. The chairman said he would like to congratulate the East Christchurch Club, winners of the senior polo championship, and the United Club, winners of the junior championship. Mr H. 8. Batchelor reported that at recent polo matches no officials had been appointed. Tie considered that this was not fair. The chairman said that the matter rested with the water polo committees. Mr .S. White said that only two or three clubs took an interest in this department. To his mind the water polo matches were a farce. The secretary of the Royal Lite Saving Society wrote suggesting alterations to the Condition* of the Sir John Hail Shield competition. The matter was left to the chairman, with power to act. A letter was received from the secretary of the Addington Club with reference to the disqualification of a certa n swimmer (Hancock) in the s©.vd« farewell handicap at the Addington Club's carnival.
