An unlighted tram pole in Cathedral Square, opposite the Dominion Buildings, was the cause of what might have been a serious accident, at about 5.15 last evening. A motor car was going across the Square at a. slow pec© when it crashed into the pole. Tho wind screen was shattered and one mud-guard crumpled. A woman was struck by some fragments of flying glass. The pole itself, which is made of cast iron, was smashed in. There was a heavy shower of rain at the time of the accident, and in the half-light it was impossible for the driver to seethe pole.
