BRIDGES WASHED AWAY

DAMAGE AT BLENHEIM. (Pku Press Association - .) BLENHEIM. May 8. The Wairau River is higher than ever before. Reports from the branch near the source indicate that the rise is still higher. The flood reached Langleydale. At Marl boro ughtown the heaviest rain for twenty-eight years was experienced. Mahakipawa reports the most serious flood ever known. At Grove. Mahakipawa and Havelock the road is under water. All bridges hare been swept away, trees have been uprooted, and chimneys blown down by the terrific gale. Part of Springlands, a suburb of Blenheim, is under water. It is still raining. WATER IN BUSINESS AREA. (Per Press Association.) BLENHEIM , May 7. There were two to three feet of water all over the business area of Blenheim at 12.30 p.m. Many shops are under water. Boats are being used to rescue residents in the low lving areas. Stop banks are still holding, but the. river is still rising, and rain continues. The outlook is very serious.

LITTLE RIVER.

The Lake is at a higher level than has been for years. A couple of washouts between Little River and Bridling’s delayed the service cars for an hour or two yesterday, but they eventually got through. There is a good deal of water at Kaituna.
