THEATRE ROYAL.

“ THE PARISH PFIEST.” “In Old Donegal ” was staged a.t the Theatre Royal for the last time by the Allen Doone Company last evening. There was a large audience, who showed much appreciation ]of this comedy drama. To-night the company will present 1 ‘ The Parish Priest.” This is one of those plays which improve with acquaintance. and those people who have sen ft before will want to renew acquaintanceship with the piece. There is a simplicity and directness of appeal in Allen Doone’s play, and it is these factors which make the performances so successful. In “The Parish Priest” there is consummate craftsmanship, and the unerring touch that denotes a profound knowledge of human nature and its many phases throughout the play. Added to this is the interpretation of a- band of players fully aware of its great possibilities and fully determined to realise them. The Father John Whalen of Allen Doone is a characterisation aH outsanding merit. This lovable, jovial old cleric is a- host, in himself. his dry humour and deep understanding of frail human nature making him a prime favourite. Miss Edna Keeley has another charming character to play, and the other members of the company are all well cast. Thhe box plans for “The Parish Priest ” are open at the Bristol, and day sales are available at the Theatre Sweets Shop.
