MANSLAUGHTER.

“ Manslaughter,’’ the big Paramount picture which comes to Everybody s on May 14. is one of the biggest productions of the year. The story proper deals with a. young society woman (I^ea,trice Joy) who imagines that wealth covers every tiling. She is the beloved of the district attorney (Thomas Meighan) and the latter notes her rapid slide downhill, and makes every effort to save her. When charged with the killing of a police patrolman. she believes that her money will get her out of the difficulty ; but here she is mistaken. Her lover is chief prosecutor, and to bring home the severity of the charge to the accused, he paints a wonderful story to the jury. The girl is convicted, and sentenced to three years’ imprisonment. Here it is that the attorney realises what he has done; but it is too late. The woman serves most of her sentence, is subsequently released, and. finding that the attorney has become one of the submerged citizns—due to drink and neglect—searches for him and brings him to a realisation of many things. Three years of hard work and the man retrieves himself —with the usual happy result. The acting, direction and photography are perfect. It is one of those- pictures that will command big attention.
