SCOTTISH SOCIETY.

ANNUAL MEETING. The annual meeting of the Scottish Society of New Zealand was held la at night, Chief J. L. Aitken presiding over a good attendance. Two new members were elected and four candidates nominated for membership. The annual report stated that the position of the society, both with regard to the finance!* and membership during the past year, had been very satisfactory. Members’ subscriptions had been fairly well met, but there was still a little outstanding. During the year 55 new members had been elected and 12 had resigned. The total membership on March 31. 1923, waa 249. The society’s income had been satisfactory, and a. pleasing feature in connection therewith had lieen the donation of £ll3 10s from the ladies' committee, which sum had been raised as a result of social*, etc. The expenditure, on the other hand, had been kept as low as possible. A memorial had been erected to tho memory of the past late Chief Charles Brown, one of the founders of the society. Hallow- 1 eon, the annual picnic of the society, and the various other gatherings had been very successful, and a pipe band had been formed. A few side-drums, etc. for this body had been purchased, and estimates for the supply of pipes were awaited from Scotland. During the past session many I Scots from Home had made themselves acquainted with the society, beooming members and taking a lively interest in it* welfare The balance-sheet showed receipt* amounting to £B9l 18s id. The expenditure (including a transfer from the Poet Office of £29o} totalled £772 13s Id, showing a credit balance of £l9 3s. The club’s total asset* were £9SS 3s lid, ami the excess of assets over liabilities £595 128 lid. The report and balance-sheet were adopted. a- vote of thanks being passed to the treasurer for his service* during the year. It wa* decided to present the Gold Badge of the Society to the honorary treasurer, Mr G. A. D. Sutherland, in recognition of hi* splendid service* throughout the period of his membership of the body. A hearty vote of thanks was passed to the retiring councillors and tfie ladies. The following office-bearers were elected for the ensuing year:—Council. Messrs J. S. Chisholm, F. W. Dick. A. Fraser. 8. D. Gilray, J. A. Guthrie. T. L. I.nigliton. .T. B. M’Dougall, and N. Stark; auditors. Messrs W. Duncan arid A. Simpsou.
