ACCIDENTS & FATALITIES.
MOTO [{-CYCLIST INJURED. Serious injuries were sustained by George Bettridge, a contracting bricklayer, residing at 54, Springfield Roa V. St Albans, in an accident last evening About six o’clock he was riding a motor-cycle, with side-chair attacneci, alono; Montreal Street, proceeding in a northerly direction and when near the intersection with Hereford Street ho came into collision with a carrier & express, which was going i 'n the opposite direction to which the motor-cycae was travelling. Almost a head-on collision resulted, and Bettridge receivedl a broken jaw and broken no>° and severe wounds to the face am hands. In addition one eye w« crushed, as if he had teceived a glancing blow from a shaft of tha express. Mr Bettridge was admitted to hospital. His son, Albert Bettridg’*who was a passenger in the side-ca** was thrown on to the road but escape i unhurt. The driver of the express. Allan Burley, of . 94. Gerald Street, St Albans, stated after the accident that he saw the motor-cycle drawing near and lie shouted to the motorcyclist but could not avoid a collision. COLLISION WITH CAR. A youth named C. R. Holland, residing at 151 Bealey Avenue, while riding a cycle collided with a motorcar at the intersection of Colombo and Cashel streets shortly afer five o'clock: last evening. He received only slightinjuries and was later able to proceed home. DEATH FROM POISON. (Per Pheas Association.) WELLINGTON, May 2. Charles Wilcox, a married man, residing at Kelburn, committed suicide to-daV by taking poison. Deceased had been out of employment some time.
