CO-OPERATION URGED BY FARMERS. (Per Press Association*.) WELLINGTON, May 3. At the meeting of the Dominion Executive of the New Zealand Farmers’ Union yesterday. Air O. C. Wilkinson (Riwaka) explained the scheme of national co-operation referred, to in the Nelson remit ; * That with the object of effecting economies in the management and handling of produce oi the soil and tillers thereof. tins executive endorses the scheme of rational co-operation of producers to control the marketing of all produce, live stock, etc., and the conduct of all business incidental to the welfare of farmers.” Mr Wilkinson advocated tho combination of every form of rural activity, including poultry men, fruitgrowers, pig-keepers, and bee-keepers, es well as dairymen and pastoralists, in one large farmers’ association. “ This association.” he urged, ** should have a capital of £.5.000.000 and should assume complete control of the handling and marketing of all procuce at present done by a diversity of commercial firms.” Fie maintained tliat the system would greatly benefit farmers generally.
