HARBOUR BOARD’S QUANDARY. The 1/yttelton Harbour Board, when it met this' morning, found itself in a, peculiar position. 1 here was no chairj man and one ot the city members was I not sure of his seat because the count under proportional representation bad not yet given him the quota. The statutory meeting for the election or chairman had been fixed for June (>. It was agreed, on the motion of Air ‘H. T. Armstrong, ALP., that until that date tlie retiring chairman, Air j J. Storrv, should hold office. Mr Armj strong said that by doing this no mem- ! her would •*' have a leg in for the job.” ! On the other point, the secietary i explained that it- was provided by j legislation that a retiring member re- : tained his seat until the new member was elected. Dr H. T. J. Thacker ! was, therefore, entitled to take part j in the proceedings. It was reported that the following 1 members of the board had so far been elected to the board : ! Christchurch City.—H.
