FRANCE AND TURKEY.
WEYGAND TO SAFEGUARD FRONTIER. By Telegraph—Press Association—Copyright Australian and N.Z. Cable Association. (Received April 30, 12.5 p.m.). PARIS. April 26. Newspapers state that General Weygand is proceeding to the North Syrian frontier to take measures to safeguard the frontier in view of the reported Turkish concentration in that region. It is pointed out that- Genera] Wevgand controls 25.000 troops in Syria, while two divisions of colonial troops are ready to reinforce him if necessary. It is thought that the Turkish movements ere not the orelude to an attack, but are more probably meant to support the Turkish bargaining at the Lausanne conference. In the meanwhile General Pelle is visiting Paris to report on the result of his recent conversations with Ismet Pasha, regarding Franco-British relations.
