'VARSITY RUGBY.

THE TEAM FOR AUSTRALIA The Australian tour of the New Zealand ’Varsity team is rapidly approaching and tins evening Mr J. N. Millard, soie selector, will announce the names of the players chosen to make the trip. In the case of Otago and Auckland players the selection will have to be made on last season's form. Mr Millard was in Christchurch on Saturday to see the Canterbury team play. It is surmised that, if the nii'n are available, the team will be much the same as fast year, but that really depends upon how many of the boys can make the trip. Even though early in the geason, time is precious in a University course.

Otago ’Varsity, which won the championship in that city last year, and which owns one of the strongest club teams in New Zealand, should provide the backbone of the touring team. The full-back may be Sinclair, of Otago, failing him, Malcolm, who played for Victoria College against Sydney, may go in. E. B. Stewart, of Otago, is sure to be selected as one wing three-quarter, and Calder. of Canterbury College, will be in as centre, unless a better has arrived on the scene. The other wing should be A. Jackson (Victoria College). if he is available, which is doubtful. and if a third winger is sent Mackereth (Otago), a last year’s representative, and «). Malfroy (Victoria) seem to be in the running. W. R. Fea, the All Black and N.Z.E.F. player, and Dr A. E. Perry are a combination in five-eighth position one and indivisible if both are on the field this season and available. Marks, the recruit to the Victoria College ranks, and the man who was mainly responsible for Wellington’s defeat when he played for Taranaki last year, will also have to be considered. Last year’s half-back, B. G. B. Lusk (Otago) is a game and clever little player, and will take beating for the

place. The pack, of course, is most uncertain. P. S. Cabot. South Island representative. is a certainty for the wing, and I should say D. Hart. H. G. Munro (Otago). Milloy (Auckland) and J. B. Jackson (Canterbury) will take dislodging. D. Scott, A. M’Rae, C. B. Thomas and P. Martin-Smith, among the Wellington men. will put in a claim to the remaining places. The three first named played in the final test last
