PRINCE OF WALES.
WELCOME IN BELGIUM. By Telegraph—Press Association—Copyright Australian and N.Z. Cable Association. BRUSSELS, April 28. The Prince of Wales received an ovation from a great crowd at the station, as he drove away with King Albert. The Princ-o arrived on a State visit to the King and Queen of Belgium, in the cruiser Caledon. Brussels was en fete, the route to the palaoe being gaily decorated with British and Belgian Macs. Buildings were also illuminated. The chief official function was the unveiling of a statue erected by Britain near the Palais de Justice, in grateful recognition of Belgium’s putt in the After the unvoting, the Prince delivered a. short address, and massed bands played the National Anthem.
BRITAIN’S GRATITUDE.
BRUSSELS, April 29. The Prince of Wales, in unveiling the British memorial in the- presence of a huge crowd, asked King Albert to accept, on behalf of his subjects, the monument offered by the British nation. symbolising Britain’s profound and unalterable gratitude towards those who had succoured her prisoners of war and distressed soldiers. The monument would perpetuate the memory of a. glorious brotherheod-in-anns. King Albert, in replying, said Belgium would never forget- the sublime sacrifices of British soldiers who had made the Ypres salient an unshakeable bastion of the Allied line. The monument for ever would illustrate the heroism of the British race. BANQUET AT THE PALACE. BRUSSELS, April 29. The Prince of Wales was given a banouet at the Palace. King Albert thanked the British Empire for the monument, which, he said, was a reaffirmation of a long-standing friendship on which Belgium -ould always rely. He described the Prince as an incomparable ambassador of his country, who was linking the peoples of the Empire.
