The Merchant Shipping Advisory Committee’s report regarding life-eav-ing appliances on passenger steamships, recommends that boats sufficient for all aboard shoul4,J> e carried, as far as possible, without encumbering the decks or impeding the prompt handling of the lifeboats. Where this qannot be done, the deficiency of accommodation should be met by mean* of a light, buoyant apparatus. In any case, in addition to boat accommodation for all, light buoyant apparatus should be provided for twenty-five per cent of those aboard. Motor boats, with wireless, should also be carried in certain eases.
