Considerable overcrowding was experienced on some of the Fapanui cars this morning, due, the tramway authorities say. to the pupils of St Andrew’s College being brought into town to see an educational film without the tramway officials being advised. The tramway officials sought to avoid a repetition on the return journey by arranging for extra accommodation on the 12.(5 p.m. car, but the pupils were j taken out on the noon car business 1 men’s trip, which consequently was • (titfso considerably overcrowded The ' tramway authorities have a- right to expect co-operation from educational i authorities in this respect. A general meeting of the members of ! the Canterbury Caledonian Society, to discuss the proposal to hold an All Nations Fair and Cabaret during Grand National Week, was held on Monday ; night, the president of the society, Mr O'. S. Thomas, being in the chair. The chairman, in explaining the object of the meeting, said that the society had made its financial arrangements in connection with the erection of its new ball in Kilmore Street-, but no provision had been made for furnishing the 1 all. To provide the necessary funds it was proposed, to hold an *'* All Nations Fair and Cabaret” in the hall. Tlie proposal was enthusiastically approved by the meeting, and a representative committee was <-et. up to carry it into effect. Tlie stalls were decided upon and stall-holders were appointed. V. was also decided to run an art union and a “ Surprise Packet Day” in connection with the fair. Mr W. G. Brass, secretary of the society, was appointed j organiser and secretary.
