Air Forbes Mackay, the city electrical engineer, is advising the City Council to burn coal in generating electricity in preference to tlie proposed hydroelectric schemes. He says that there are no large hydro-electric propositions in New South A\ ales which it is advisable from a commercial standpoint to develop. Referring to the Snowy River scheme, he said that to save £IOO.OOO coal bill yearly it would be necessary t;: lay out millions, with an interest bill of £150.000 a* year.
