MILITARY DEFAULTERS.
♦ NOT WANTED IN RUGBY. (Pjer Press Association.) WELLINGTON. April 11. The question ot the status of military defaulters was discussed bv the New Zealand Rugby Union last night. The Wellington union sent a letter from the Returned Soldiers’ Association drawing attention, to the fact that defaulters had been deprived of their civil right*, and urging that they should be debarred from playing the game. The chairman moved- ‘‘That this union approves of the spirit ol the letter, an«l that a copy be sent to affiliated clubs, with the request that the/ check their rolls and report if there aiy anv players who come under the ban. in the general discussion. Major AX' Hardbam. Y.C., said that military defaulters should not bo encouraged in the amateur Rugby <*ode. Ollier speakers pointed out that it was not fair to impose on clubs the task of seeking out military defaulters. The job was really one for the Govern The motion was carried, two dissentients.
