“NO LIGHT SENTENCES.”
BREAKING AND ENTERING. (Per Press Association.) WELLINGTON, April 10. A warning to evil-doers was issued bv the Chief Justice in the Supreme Court this morning. His Honor said: “ Breaking and entering must be put down, and there are going to be no soft sentences in reference to such offences. Not only in the Wellington district, but throughout New Zealand, there has been too much breaking and entering. It has become a perfect craze in the community.” PI is Honor added that it had to he pftt- down, and he could not grant probation in surli cases. He did not know of one case where a man had benefited as the result of a wrongful act. Ho had been a member of tfyo Prisons Board for some years, and had never come across such a case. Young men should realise that they could not commit serious offences with impunity.
