CLAIM FOR BOARD.

A CROSS ACTION. “ He came t-o stay with us until he found a farm, but instead of getting a farm he squandered his money around the town drinking, and did not know what it was to be sober.” said Arthur Reeves in giving evidence in support o’, an action brought by bis wife, Ada Reeves, against David Chisholm, fanner. of Sydenham, in the Court to-day. Mr H. Y. \\ kidow s<>u, S.M., was on the bench. The dispute resolved itself into two distinct actions. The plaintiff, for whom Mr R. O. Abernethy appealed, claimed £BB 19s 7d for board and lodgings supplied to the defendant and bis two sms at 155, Radley Street. Woolston. and for storage of furniture. The defendant (for whom Mr H. I). Aoland appeared) claimed fro in the plaintiff £45 15s (id. the value of furniture detained bv plaintiff’, in default a. return of the furniture, and £25 damages for the detention. Arthur Reeves, husband of the plaintiff, said the defendant had paid no money to him for board and lodging for himself and his sons. lie understood be had paid his wife about £l3 He eventually had to put the defendant cut of the.house because of his drink r ing habits. He had the “ d.t’s ” twice vliile lie was in the house. He was a nuisance at night. After his drink was done he walked about the premises and kept the others awake. When lie eventually compelled him to leave, his sons refused to go with him. One had since left. (Proceeding.)
