The recent decision of the Sydney City Council to limit street appeals to two occasions in the year, one of which must be allotted to the hospitals, was referred to the Mayor of Wellington for his opinion as to whether he had anything to suggest about the future in this regard, states the “Dominion.’ “ I think the street appeal has been rather overdone,” said Mr Wright “ but the two cities are different in this respect, that there are many objects of civic help here that appeal more generally to the community, and you would find it difficult to inhibit any of them.” He added that sinot* his term of office the number of street appeals had been further limited, ana that during his period of office there had arisen others of a special nature, such as the Boys’ Institute appeal for funds for the children’s playground and the appeal for the unemployed. “It has been overdone,” the Mayor i remarked again, but T don’t thinic we could go so far as reducing tho appeals t 6 two in the year.”
