OBITUARY.

C. E. SALTER. i The death occurred at his residence. • Hackthorne Road, Cashmere, yesterj dav. of Mr Charles Edward Salter, .solicitor, a very well known Christchurch resident. Mr Salter, who | was 72 years of age. came to New Zea- ! land with* his parents over sixty years ago. For the greater part of his life { Mr Salter had resided in St Albans, where he was prominently connected with the Methodist Church. Ho liad occupied, in connection with the ihunb, practical!v every office that a layman could occupy. For many years he was superintendent of the St Albans Sunday School. He was a trustee of the church and a circuit steward. When he removed to Cashmere he became actively interested in the church there, and one of those who selected and purchased the site now occupied bv the Methodist Church on the hills. He was a member of many important conference committees. Mr Salter took an active part in the prohibition movement, and was also interested in politics, though he took no active personal part in them Mr Salter's death came as a surprise to most of his friends. He had been ill for about a fortnight, but it was not generally thought that his illness was of a serious character. He leaves a widow and grown-up family.
