TO-DAY’S CASES. CHRISTCHURCH. (Before Mr Wyvern Wilson, S.M.) DRUNKENNESS. George Cuttle, a second offender was fined 20s. in default three daytf un prisonment. Two first offenders were each fined 4s, in default twenty-four hours’ imprisonment. A female first offender was convicted and discharged. Alexander Waters was fined TOs. !_» default twenty-four hours’ imprisonment for drunkenness, and fo r casting offensive matter in the street he wva fined 20s. in default forty-eight hours imprisonment. A BROKEN WINDOW. Percy Robinson pleaded guilty to charges of drunkenness and of eonmmitting mischief by wilfully damaging a window, valued at £3. the property of Frederick Williams. Senior-Sergeant F. Lewin said that aocused. in a drunken condition loaned against the window breaking it. On the charge of drunkenness accused was convicted and discharged, and for mischief he was ordered to pay costs, in default seven days’ imprisonment. AN HABITUAL VAGRANT. Charles Henry King, aged 44 years, was charged with being a rogue and vagabond, in that he had begged alms in Manchester Street. Senior-Sergeant Lewin said that accused had accosted three men on Saturday, and asked them for money. He had been seen doing this some days before. TTie Magistrate said that accused’s record showed that he was an habitual vagrant and had been convicted over and over again. King was sentenced to three months’ imprisonment. CIVIL BUSINESS. (Eefore Mr H. Y. Widdowson, S.M.) RESERVED JUDGMENT. / Reserved decision was given in the rase in which Kerr and Barnett, nurserymen. North Avtm Road (Mr P. P. •I. Amodeo) claimed from E. P. H. Burbiin - , farmer, Waiau (Mr -1. D. Godfrey) £37 10s, the balance of a debt due on a contract to lay down a tennis court and effect other improvements on defendant’s property at Sherwood Downs. Plaintiffs claimed a further £24 3s for sundries. Defendant, in a counterclaim, alleged that the work had been done carelessly, that the tennis court had to Ik: recovered. that unsuitable grasses were used :-nd tli at the drainage and levelling were unworkmanlike. He therefore daimed £l9l, the sum he said was necessary to put the contract work in Judgment was given for plaintiffs for £6l 13s. with costs as on a claim for £37 10s.
