The Senate Finance Committee has begun consideration of a Bill introduced by Senator Harris, authorising the President to appoint three Democrats as members of the American Debt Commission, which is at present composed exclusively of Republicans. The Republican leaders wish that the responsibility for the Commission’s directions. should he shared by both parties. Mr A. W. Mellon. Secretary of the Treasury, has sent a letter to the committee, disapproving of the increasing ol : the Commission’s membership, on the ground that it would become cumbersome. The British-American Debt Commissions held a long session to-day. going over the British statement of their financial position. Tt also began consideration of the terms upon which the debt can he funded without an unduly severe disturbance of industry or commerce. The meeting was private.
