AQUATICS. There were six entries for the yacht race conducted by the Canterbury Yacht and Motor Boat Club on Saturseries to be decided for the Miller Cup, and for which points are scored by the three first placed yachts. The motor boat nice was run for a cup presented bv Mr T. Tuobv. The results were as follow - Yacht race—Annis (9sec) 1. Waimana (ser) 2. Linnett (18min) 3. Shadow (22min>. Kin Ora (6min’) and Bettina (27min) also started. Motor boat race— Minnehaha f24min) 1. lan (32min) 2. Moturala (2min) 3. Sea Mew (scr) and Winnie (9inin) also started. UNUSUAL CARD GAMES. An unusual game of crib was played one day last week between two old crib players in the vicinity of Lyttelton. Doth players were dealt unusual hands. One played received two aces, two fours and two nines, and the other two aces, two fours, and two tens. One player placed two nines in crib and the other two tens. The cut up was a jack (2). One player played a four, which was paired by his opponent. Then another four was played (6), and a fourth four was played (12). An ace was then played, which was paired (2). and then another ace (6) and another (12). Each hand then showed 8, crib showing 16. FIRE. The Lyttelton Volunteer Fire Brigade was called out at 6.15 a.m. yesterday to extinguish an outbreak of fire at the residence of Mr G. Patterson, Oxford Street. Mr Patterson was burning off some paint with a blow-lamp, and some cobwebs ignited and created a flare. Before the arrival of the brigade the fire was under control. Little damage was done.
