The sugar shortage on the Coast is nor,- really serious, arid unless supplies arrive soon Grey mouth householders will face a real predicament. The Titoki was to leave Auckland tor the Coast with a. cargo of sugar, but for some unknown reason her sailing has been cancelled. The local agents .for sugar supplies, Duncan M’Leau, Ltd , and Griffon and Smith, .Ltd., telegraphed yesterday to the Board of Trade as follows: “Coast absolutely bare of sugar supplies. Considerable quantities of transhipments and local produce at Auckland urgently required here. Wo can offer between us at least 120 tons of cargo. Can you arrange shipment?” % Even if quantities of sugar were obtainable from Christchurch, the added cost of freight (£6 10s per ton) makes such transit almost prohibitive, and it is to be hoped that the authorities will realise the need of the Coast and arrange for immediate support from Auckland.
