Aliss Hood, on behalf of the members o the association, then presented Miss Newman, who is shortly leaving for 1 Wellington, with q leather suitcase, an eiderdown quilt, and a copper tray and hot-water jug. Miss Hood said that she felt that Miss Newman’s departure was a personal loss, and she was sure many of the nurses shared her feelings. She particularly eulogised Miss Neuman’s work amongst the poorer classes of the community. Dr Douglas Anderson endorsed Miss Hood’s remarks, and on behalf of Mias Turner, thanked the members of the association for their good wishes and for their handsome gifts. On Wednesday afternoon Dr Alary Harris Armor was the guest of the Christchurch Women’s Christian Temperance Union at the Art Gallery, which was prettily decorated with palms, maples,, liles and roses. Airs T. E. Taylor yveloomed Dr Armor in a few words of appreciation and thanks, remarking that Dr Armor had been an inspiration and power to all. Miss Henderson also spoke, and the presidents of the branch unions, and presidents of Christchurch and Sumr.er Efficiency Leagues all testified to the inspiration given by Dr Armor. Dr Armor thanked the friends who had spoken, and said that it was a pleasure to be in New Zealand, a country and people she had learned to love next to her own. She urged all present to vote for a “ dry ” candidate, as she was of the opinion that New Zealand was going “ dry,” and would went good men to enforce the law. A number of bouquets were presented, which were sent to the Hospital and sick members. Twelve new members joined tho Christchurch union. Afternoon tea was dispensed, and the proceedings closed with the Temperance Doxology. A large crowd of Christ’s College Old Boys, their wives and friends, -attended at the College yesterday afternoon, when his Excellency the Governor-Gen-eral laid the foundation stone of the War Alemorial Hall. After the ceremony afternoon tea was served, Viscount Jellieoe. the members of the College staff and of the Board of Governors being entertained on a pretty, well-shaded lawn. Aliss Alaud Farmer, Alt Eden (Auckland) lias been awarded the first prize of £lO by an Australian School of Sketching in a recent competition held in Sydney. Captain Barnard, of the De Havilland Aircraft Company, who has been her instructor. has nothing but praise for liis pupil, and places entire confidence in her coolness and ability for rapid decision in a crisis. The aeroplane in which she qualified is her own pro perty. The marriage was celebrated at St Stephen’s Church. Phillip Street, Syd ney, of Aliss Alattie Jenkins, eldest daughter of Air James Jenkins, o F Dunedin, with Air George Dowie, oT England. The church was beautifully, decorated with masses of white flowers, and the ceremony was performed by Rev J. Ferguson The bride, who was given away by her uncle, Air T. Henderson, wore a tailored suit of fawn gabardine, with close-fitting hat to tone. She carried a shower bouquet o’ pale pink carnations and stocks tied with satin ribbons. Airs Lawson was matron of honour, in a hennatoned costume, and her hat was of satin in the same tone. A posy of scarlet carnations and poppies com pleted tlie ensemble. Air Sheldon was best man. The reception was held at the Alacquarie, where Airs Mitchell re ceived her guests in a gown of navy cashmere de sole and radium lace, with black satin hat.
