The late Alonzo Wisdom, who - j death was announced yesterday, had j for the past half-century been identified with the life and progress of the district. He took a keen interest in the welfare of the young people, and for many years was superintendent of the Oobden Sunday School, an active member of the Cobden Assembly, and prominent in the ('obden Christian Endeavour Society. He was a native of Nova Scotia, and emigrated to these shores early in life, following his trade as a builder, and had attained the age of 97 years. lie was predeceased by his wife eight or nine years ago. He leaves an adult family (all married), two sons (Messrs Herbert and Alonzo Wisdom, Cobden), and five daughters iMesdames F. Olsen, Palmerston North; G. Malcolm, Apiti; T. M’Neil, J. M’Neil, and W. M’Neil, Cobden), and eighteen grandchildren. The funeral will take place to-morrow. The death of Mrs Sampson, wife of Mr W. Sampson, of Mataifrui, took place on Sunday at the Westland Hospital after a lengthy illness. Deceased was a native of Bruce Bay. She was the daughter of Mr J. W. Bannister, and was thirty-two years of age. She leaves a husband and a young family of three sons and three daughters. The funeral took place at the Hokitika Cemetery yesterday afternoon, the Rev A. C. Purchase officiating. The body of the late Nurse Ada Kilgour arrived to-night, and the train was met at the station by relatives of the deceased lady and representative citizens. who followed the remains on the last sad home-going. MR MASSEY’S MOVEMENTS. The Prime Minister will leave Xel- j son at 6 o’clock to-morrow morning by ! special motor car, and is expected to pass through Greymouth at 4 p.m. He will speak at Hokitika at 6.30 p.m. and immediately afterwards will motor to Greymouth, arriving in time to deliver a speech at the Opera House at 9 p.m. The party will stay at Revington’s Hotel to-morrow night and will leave by the Otira express on Thursday morning. Mr Massey will give a short speech at Love’s Hall, Otira, and will then go through the tunnel to Arthurs Pass, delivering an address at Christchurch on Thursday evening.
