WARNING TO BANKS. By Telegraph—Press Association—Copyright Australian and N.Z. Cable Association. CONSTANTINOPLE. October 25. Hamid Bey, a representative of the Angora Government, has warned all banks that Angora would not recognise payments made on account of the Constantinople Government. The High Commissioners specially met to consider the serious affects of the threat. They pointed out that Government officials had not received their salaries for seven months. BANKS MUST CARRY ON. CONSTANTINOPLE. October 25. The Allied High Commissioners have handed a Note to Ilamid Bey, 'pointing out that the threatened measure to prevent payments by the Constantinople banks, would bring starvation to the widows, children and Government pensioners, and would put an end to the services of the public. The order would lead to anarchy. Therefore, the Powers had ordered the banks to carry on as heretofore. They declare that they are unable to admit the contention of the Angora Government in that connection.
