CHRISTCHURCH NORTH. MR E. H. ANDREWS TO STAND. Another influential deputation waited upon Air E. H. Andrews last evening, and a second one this morning, urging him to definitely announce his candidature as a Reform candidate for Christchurch North. Mr Andrews stated in reply that he proposed to do that at his meeting of supporters to morrowevening. A MODERATE LABOUR PARTY. (Special to the Star ”> ASHBURTON. October 11. The Labour Representation Committee discussed tbe question of contesting the Ashburton seat against tbe Hon W. Xosworthy. the sitting member. The meeting decided to enter a fight provided that a suitable candidate could be found in the interests of Liberal-Labour. The committee took tbe view that it® candidate should be, allowed a fair amount of latitude in the matter of platform provided that he was in the position 10 vote no-confidence ” against tho present Government. Asked why the local Labour Representation Committee should choose to contest tho scat in the Liberal-Labour interests an official stated that the local Labour Party was not going to accept any extreme policy, nor would it tolerate extremists. “Tf we are not going to accept the Labour party’s extreme policy, we have got to allow our candidate a fair amount of latitude.” MOTUEKA SEAT. Air Robert Patterson, a member of the Nelson Land Board and other local bodies, will contest the Alotueka seat in the Liberal-Labour interests. Air Scantlebury. the Liberal candidate, is retiring in his favour.
