CHEAPER BREAD.

FLOUR PRICE REDUCED. MILLERS SURPRISED. Bread will drop by a penny for the 41b loaf on November 1. The announcement made by the Min ister of Agriculture that a reduction of 50s per ton has been made in the price of flour is received with very .diverse feelings, when the viewpoints of the public, the bakers and the millers are inquired into. The millers seem to think that the message is not complete. They say that if they are compelled to reduce flour prices without any qualifying advantage in the way of a subsidy, then it will form n precedent that will throw a damper on business dealings with tho Government. One miller said :— ei On the gazetted arrangement there is absolutely no reason why the price of flour should be reduced. The Government fix the price of wheat and wc were to get a certain price for Hour and in view of the extraordinary announcement made by the Minister we want to see whre and how the difference to us ingoing to be made up." Millers consider that subsidies might be granted to them by the Government, but as a whole thev consider that in common justice to there should he some other advantage. Several millers interviewed were of opinion that there was a little political scheming behind the move to reduce the price. t% It came as an agreeable surprise to the bakers,” said a master baker. “ Of course we are very pleased at the drop, although it is only a few shillings a ton. Tt will make the 41h loaf cheaper by a penny.”
