CONFLICT IN PRISON.

One prisoner -and one Free State sol- j dier were killed and many were wounded during a conflict in Mount joy Prison, where hundreds of Irregulars were detained. Arms and ammunition were secretly smuggled into the prison, and lire was ; opened on the guard, which returned ; the fire and quickly quelled the disturbance. The stewards’ room at the Canter- l bury Park Trotting Club was broken j into a day or two ago and the sideboard J stripped oi its stock of liquors, an as j sortinent of whisky, brandy, sherry. j claret and soft drinks being stolen. The ! value of the liquors removed is esti mated at £6. Entrance was gained j through .a window with a defective catch. The thief presumably put tho key of the stewards’ room in his pocket 1 and left the building by way of the see | ret ary s office, the door of which was I left unlocked.
