BOXING.

CHRISTCHURCH SPORTS CLUB. The Christchurch Sports Club has received the signature and acceptance of C. Whittaker of Wellington to meet B. M’Cleary for the light-heavy weight championship of New Zealand at the King Edward Barracks on Saturday, September 2. The contest is arousing much interest. Both contestants met in the early part of the season, when M’Cieary gained a points decision over the visitor after one of the lwjst bouts since pre-war days. Whittaker has greatly improved iu the meantime and ho recently had an easy win against A. Pooley of Auckland, at New Plymouth. After M’Cieary had defeated Whittaker here M'Cleary was beaten bs r L. Cadman at Westport and subsequently Pooley beat Cadman. The position is therefore somewhat complicated and to give the competitors the opportunity of deciding the point, the local sports club is

matching them again. In addition to the principal bout, which will be for fifteen rounds, the club is negotiating for contests between S. Rtewart of Tizuaru, and A. Thompson, N. Moulin and W. O’Connor, and J. Taylor and P. Burns for six threerr.inute round. The club has also accepted the services of Messrs T. M. Charters and A. Brown to conduct a. popular community 6ing from seven o’clook until eight o’clock.
