A young man named Joseph Terence Maher was charged j with assuming the designation of a police officer and attempting to obtain CIO from a storekeeper. Evidence showed that accused represented himself as a police sergeant, visited the shop of an old man named John Parry, and demanded £lO, alleged to be obtained from a person some days previously, otherwise ho would arrest Parry. The request was refused. Maher denied knowledge of the transaction. He was fined £lO on the l! arge of representing himself as a police officer, and was committed for trial on the second charge.
