RAILWAY BALL.

The annual railway ball, held in the Art Gallery last evening, was a success in every way. The ballroom was completely transformed, intertwined streamers of green and gold paper hiding the ceiling, from winch liung large baskets of wattle and artistically tiesigned bells. The walls were draped in black and panelled in narrow strips of gold, finishing some distance above the floor in a wide band of green. The lights were prettily draped to tone with the general colour scheme, and the permanent gallery was divided into a lounge, which was well furnished with comfortable couches and chairs, and a supper-room, where the tables were charmingly decorated with palms and hothouse plants.
