METROPOLITAN MARKET. TO-DAY’S SALE, There was a fairly large yarding of beef at the metropolitan weekly market at Addington to-day, and the sale opened firmly at an advance on late rates. Fat sheep were yarded in much smaller number than last week, the entry filling only about eight races. As a result of the short entry the sale opened briskly at an advance on last week’s values. A small yarding of store sheep met. with a really good sale, and there was a consistent demand throughout. STORE SHEEP. There was not a large yarding of store sheep, and it consisted chiefly of hoggets. The entry included some nice lines. Ihe demand was brisk, and the sale throughout was a good one. There was a firm demand for sound-mouthed ewes, and one line of *l3O four, six and eight-tootn nail** bred ewes made the good price of 29s -«• Hoggets made rather better prices than last week. A fairly good clearance was made, but some lines of broken-mouthed ewes were passed. Values were;— Good mixed sex hoggets 17s to 18s Go. . Cross-bred wether hoggets 14s to 14s 6d. Good half-bred wether lioggete 16s to 16s 9d. Small half-bred weathers 13s 7d to 14s Fa.irly forward four, six and eight-tooth wethers 20s to 21s Id. Two-tooth wethers 17s to 18s 2d. Six and eight-tooth ewes 19s 3d. Four, six and eight-tooth half.-bred ewes in lamb to 29s 2d. Sound-mouthed cross-bred ewes in lamb 22s 4d to 28= fid. Aged cvres in lamb Us Id to 14s 2d. Empty ewes 13s Id. FAT CATTLE. The yarding of fat cattle was a fairly lai£?e one, v and it included some nicely finished line of handy weight steers. There were some good cattle forward from the North Island. The sale opened briskly, and prices were firmer than those ruling last week. Towards the end. of the sale an easing tendency was noticeable, but good cattle sold well throughout. A line of ten prime heifers, sold on behalf of Mr V’. M'Kenzfe (Masterton) made from £ll to £l3 ..ts, five bringing the former price and five the latter. Sixteen cows sold for tl* same vendor made from £9 2s 6d to £ll 15s. the latter price for five. The following sales were made;— On account of F. Crump (Springstonb heifer at, £lO 12s fid; Jennings Peach (Sefton). 3 steers at £8 17s fid; Dennis M'Kendry (LyncLhurst). steer at £l3. heifer £9 IO?; D. L. Rutherford fMornai, 8 steers at £l3 2s 6d to £l4 7s fid; 8. L. Rutherford (Leslie Hills), 8 steers at £l2 15s to £l3 7s fid; client. 8 steers at £ll 10s to £l3 ss: J. R. Thacker (Chain's Bay). 7 steers at £l6 to £l7; A. J. Clark (Cashmere). 2 cows at £9 12s 6d to £lO 12s 6cl; client, cow at £lO 2s 6d; Mrs Clarkson (Fendalton). cow at £7. VEALERS. Only about fifty vealers were forward, and the general quality was again poor. The demand was good, and prices showed an advance on late rates, values were;— Runners to £5. Vealers £3 10s to £4 15s. Small veal oalves 8b upwards. FAT SHEEP. The entry of fat sheep filled only about eight races, compared with fourteen last week. There were some.nice lines of sheep forward. Butchers competed keenly for the small entry, and opening values were better than those ruling last week.
