BURWOOD NOTES.

(From Our Corespondent.) The monthly meeting of the Progres sivo Association was held on August 16, Mr J. H‘. Bowse presiding. The question of the City Council dumping rubbish on the reserve at Buxton’s wa* discussed and it was decided to again write the Waimairi County Council on the matter. The Health Department stated that a low ''section in the district had been inspected. The matter was held over until next meeting. The Tramway Board wrote in reply tc the association’s request to paint the she! ter shed, stating that the board would pay half the cost. With respect to lighting New Brighton Road the conn

cil wrote- that the matter had been referred to the committee. The association decided to thank Mr W P. Silencer for the help he had given in the matter. On Mr Wilson’s motion a sub-committee consisting of Messrs Wilson, James Robinson, biggins. Bowse and Thompson were appointed a deputation to wait on Mr Owen in connection with providing work for improving the river at Bnrwood. It was decided that the Wftimairi County Council be requested to take steps to have the foreshore vested in the council ; that a letter bo scut to the Heath octe County Council asking if the new bridge, was taken over by the county, that the Waimari County Council be asked to attend to the polo at the coiner of Lake Terrace and New Brighton Roads j. that a letter be sent to Mrs G. King and family expressing the eympathy of the association in their recent sad bereavement. The weekly euchre and dance promoted by the Progressive Association was well attended. Prizes in the euchre competition were won by Mrs Mills, Mrs Mennels. Mr A. Harwood and Master G. Huffadine. Miss Peters acted as pianist and Mr Reaby as M.C. The local school football team leave for Cheviot on Thursday to play a match on Friday. They will return on Saturday. The concert in aid of the Pearson Blind Fund will take place in the had on Friday evening. It is to be hoped that the River Improvement Fund will carry out some work at Bnrwood. Quite a large number of the dairymen ryho supply the city with milk live in the Bnrwood district. With some warm weather the grass will soon come along and an ample supply of milk will b*- assured. Some time ago" I visited the City Council plantations near the Bottle Lake Hospital. Acres ofi iPnus insignis have l>een planted bv the council employees in sandy soil and the trees, some of which are now a few years old look remarkably well. Hie school will be breaking up f n > the holidays on August 25. A new shop has been erected at. the corner of Shirley and Marshland Roads. This should be an acquisition to the locality. __
