AUSTRALIAN TRADE.
EXTRA CARGO STEAMER, The improved steamer service for the carriage of cargo between Australia and South Island ports is about to be commenced. The Waikouaiti, which is atpresent oji the Sydney-South Island run, leaves Sydney on August 26 for the Bluff. Dunedin and Lyttelton, and tlio Whangape. bound direct for Lyttelton, will follow two weeks later. Thereafter the Waikouaiti and Whangape will maintain a fortnightly service. which should be of great benefit to South Island commercial interests.
