CLIFTON SCOUTS. The local Scouts -were ably assisted in their effort to raise funds for their organisation, by the St Michael’s Scout Troop. These lads came down this week and staged a very clever performance of “ Koko Island ” in the Town Hall. The einging, the dancing, and the scenery were most favourably commented upon, and Mr Froggatt, who trained the boys was heartily thanked for the result. THE RANXERDALE MEN. During the visit of the Kannerdale men, a few local enthusiasts offered to araist in the raising of enough funds to provide the men with the means of a visit t-o the seaside more often. It is understood that a concert will be held in the Town Hall at an early date for this purpose. j PRESBYTERIAN CHURCH. 1 The management committee’s reporf presented at the annual meeting of the j Presbyterian Church stated that the ! buildings and property were in a very i satisfactory state and that there was | now only £BO owing on the church pro- i perty. The report referred to the very | satisfactory state of the finances of the ! church, and thanked the members for their liberality during the past year. Thirty pounds had been paid off the debt, £35 had been contributed to the orphanage, £36 had been raised for missions, and £69 for incidental expenses, fencing and alterations. The P.W.M.U. report showed that a Maori Mission Birthday League had been established, and that a sum of £2l had been raised for missions. It was unanimously agreed to en- | dorse the recommendation of the com- j mittee to hold an annual ehrx'santhev- j mum show. On the motion of Mr Bret tell, seconded by Mr Topping, a hearty vote of thanks was accorded to the Rev W. McAra and all the office bearers. INTER-BOROUGH CONTESTS. Messrs W. Sergison and R. XV. Brit- ' ton are being well supported in their efforts to select a team to meet New Brighton. Satisfactory arrangements have been made to play on the South Ground at Lancaster Park on Saturday next. A meeting of representatives from the local Sports Clubs will be held on Wednesday evening. SPRING FLOWER SHOW. The Spring Flower Show in connee- . tion with St Paul’s Methodist Sunday School has been advanced another stage. t The date has been fixed for the after- , noon and evening of September 20. The schedule which has been drawn up includes classes for cut blooms, and pot plants, for adults and for children under sixteen. There in also a domestic section for both seniors and juniors. The function includes a sale of work and a number of 6talls besides. The proceeds will go to the Sunday School Extension Fund. |

SEAMEN’S INSTITUTE. Mrs G. XV. C- Smithson presided over the monthly meeting of the Sumner Guild of the Seamen’s Institute. There waii a good attendance of members. -Mrs A. L. F. Ledger reported on the hospital visiting for the month. On an average five seamen per week were visited, and the gifts of books, flowers and fruit, supplied by the Guild, were very deeply appreciated. One new member wae elected. Thanks were accorded to Mrs Smith. Redcliffs : Mrs Clarkson, Murray Place; and Mrs H. D. Bates, Sumner, for magazines, etc. ALL SAINTS’ CHURCH. Through the generosity of an anonymous supporter, sufficient money was recently advanced to purchase a very handsome piano for the Parish Room. A series of concerts has been arranged to help to discharge this financial obligation. REDCLIFFS NOTES. CARNIVAL DANCE. The Carnival Dance organised by Mrs H. J, Xeilson, senr., and Mr C. Guy in the interests of the Redcliffs School Hall, was a great success. The Suitfner Town Hall wan packed and a most enjoyable evening was spent. During the supper adjournment Mr A. Holden, the chairman of the School Committee, took the opportunity of thanking the promoters and called for three cheers for those who had worked to make the evening such a success. The request wan responded to heartily. THE SCHOOL FAIR. The various committees have been hard at work preparing for next Saturday’s fair. Everything is going well and the outlook is very promising. SOCIAL EVENING. Xlrs H. .T. Neilson, senr.. is arranging a function to be held in tho new School building in aid of the Hall Fund. As this will celebrate the first public use of the new rooms for social pi\rposes, it is expected to be very popular. The residents have wanted such a building for a very long time.
